Organising committee

The 2nd PUIG VELA CLĄSSICA BARCELONA Regatta for Vintage, Classic and Spirit of Tradition boats is organised by the Barcelona Royal Yacht Club and the Spanish Royal Sailing Federation, and sponsored by the Puig Group.

The PUIG VELA CLĄSSICA BARCELONA Regatta forms part of the official competition calendar, included in the Spanish Championship for Classic and Vintage Boats which is organised by the Spanish Royal Sailing Federation (RFEV).

Place and dates

The PUIG VELA CLĄSSICA BARCELONA Regatta will be held in the waters of Barcelona from 15 to 18 July 2009.

Rules

The regatta will be governed according to the following rules:

  • The ISAF Racing Rules of Sailing 2009-2012 (RRS).
  • The CIM 2006-2009 Rules for the rating and racing of Vintage and Classic yachts, including the modifications stipulated in the 2007 Appendix.
  • The CIM Rules for "Spirit of Tradition" yachts with IRC certification.
  • The International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea.
  • The RFEV 2009 Technical Regulations for Cruise Ships (chapter 6).

In the case of any discrepancies between this announcement and the Regatta Instructions, the latter will take precedence.

In the case of any discrepancies between the texts provided in Spanish, English and/or French, the Spanish text will take precedence.

Eligibility

Participants must comply with the conditions stipulated in the CIM 2006-2009 Rules for the rating and racing of Vintage and Classic yachts and the modifications stipulated in the 2007 Appendix.

Participants of Spanish nationality or those who are legally resident in Spain must possess a Sailing Federation License for 2009.

Participating classes

The PUIG VELA CLĄSSICA BARCELONA Regatta is open to the following categories:

  • Vintage boats: boats launched before 31 December 1949 and built in accordance with CIM Regulations.
  • Classic boats: boats launched between 1 January 1950 and 31 December 1975 and built in accordance with CIM Regulations.
  • Spirit of Tradition boats: boats that comply with the Spirit of Tradition definition stipulated in the current CIM Regulations.

      All duly completed applications, along with a photocopy showing proof of payment or a personal cheque, should be sent to:

      The registration process will be formalised through payment via personal cheque made out to the Real Club Nįutico de Barcelona or by bank transfer to the following account, indicating the name of the boat and providing a photocopy showing proof of payment:

      The boat owner or their representative will be responsible for verifying that the registration application has been correctly received by the Organising Committee regardless of the application process used.

      The registration fees for the regatta are as follows:

      • For boats over 25 metres: €300.
      • Between 24.99 and 20 metres: €250.
      • Between 19.99 and 15 metres: €200.
      • Between 14.99 and 12 metres: €175.
      • For boats under 12 metres: €125.

          • Applications must be accompanied by the registration fees and the following documentation:

          • Copy of a valid insurance policy covering civil liability (third party damage to people and property), or extended civil liability coverage for damages to third parties up to a minimum of ¤601,012.
          • Copy of the payment receipt for the valid insurance policy.
          • Copy of the CIM Rating Certificate for 2009.
          • Copy of the IRC Rating Certificate for "Spirit of Tradition" boats for 2009.
          • Details of crew members with ID or passport numbers and contact information (to be completed in the Regatta Office).
          • For Spanish crew members, a copy of the National Sailing Federation License.

          The application deadline is Monday 13 July 2009 at 20.00.

          The Organising Committee reserves the right to extend this deadline.

          At least one trial must be completed in each of the participating classes to win the 2nd PUIG VELA CLĄSSICA BARCELONA Regatta.

          Routes

          The routes will be indicated in the Regatta Instructions.

          Inspections and ratings

          Safety and rating inspections may be carried out.

          Scoring

          The scoring system will be that established in the ISAF rules (Appendix A4.1).

          Categories

          There will be a category for each established class and/or group.

          Safety

          The safety requirements established for this regatta will comply with the Special Regulations for Category 4 in accordance with the current ISAF Special Regulations for Offshore Racing.

          All boats must be equipped with a VHF radio tuned to channel 16 and all other channels assigned for the regatta.

          All boat owners or their representatives are responsible for ensuring that their vessel complies with the general and specific legal requirements for recreational boats for handling, dispatch and safety.

          Awards

          The list of awards will be detailed in the Regatta Instructions or published via the Official Notice Board.

          Berths

          All participating yachts that are based outside of Catalonia will be provided with a free berth at the Barcelona Royal Yacht Club from 1 to 31 July, 2009.

          All other yachts will be provided with a free berth at the Barcelona Royal Yacht Club from 11 to 26 July, 2009.

          Image rights

          Any advertising actions other than those instigated by the sponsor or the Organising Committee are strictly prohibited and may not be generated by any of the participants or any person, organisation and/or elements directly or indirectly linked to the organisation, person, product, service, brand or idea in any way that differs from that established in Appendix 1 of the RRS, rule 20.3.1 (b).

          Non-compliance with this regulation will result in the automatic disqualification from the competition of the yacht responsible for the advertising action, with no right to reimbursement of the regatta registration fee.

          The image rights are held solely and exclusively by the sponsor and the two clubs charged with organising this event.

          Liability

          All those participating in the regatta do so at their own risk and responsibility.

          The Organising Committee or any person or entity involved in the organisation of the event does not accept any responsibility for loss, damage, injury or inconvenience that may affect people or property, both on land and sea, as a consequence of participating in the competitions included in this regatta.

          Participants are reminded of the ISAF Fundamental Rule 4, THE DECISION TO RACE, in Part 1 of the RRS which stipulates that:

          "The responsibility for a boat's decision to participate in a race or to continue racing is hers alone"
